Project Plume publishes English translations of women’s* writing in a seasonal anthology. We seek to promote literature that dazzles and refreshes perspectives.

Each issue will feature a diverse collection of poetry and prose from a common base language, alongside artwork centred on a common theme.

Submissions open until 31st August 2019

ISSUE ZERO will be published in print and feature a diverse collection of stories, essays and poems by contemporary women* writers and their translators from Czech to English.

We are seeking submissions of both English translations and original Czech texts by women authors for our pilot anthology.

Please read the guidelines carefully before submitting!

Guidelines for English translations:

We strongly encourage Czech-English literary translators who are seeking to place existing work to submit.

POETRY: Feel free to submit up to 5 poems in total, by as many different women authors.

✱ FICTION: Feel free to submit up to 3 pieces by as many different women authors, but please ensure your overall submission does not exceed 3000 words in total.

✱ Always include evidence of the original writer’s approval for publication.

Also, please remember:

To include the original Czech text with your English translation, either as an attachment or via a link.

✱ We do not accept previously-published English translations.

✱ If you will be submitting this work for future publication, that’s fine, but please make sure to let us know!

✱  If you are an author who is submitting an English translation of your own text, make sure to include evidence of the translator’s approval for publication.

✱ We cannot at this time offer any remuneration if your submission is selected for publication. We do, however, pledge to do all that is within our power to amplify your work as strategically and internationally as humanly possible!

Original Czech texts:

As part of our guiding mission to support women in translation, we are working hard on expanding our ability to fund original translations. At this stage, we can only consider shorter-form Czech-language poetry and prose submissions. This includes:

✱  POETRY: We accept between 3 to 5 original Czech-language poems per individual author.

✱  SHORT PROSE: For submissions of creative fiction and nonfiction, we accept 1 original Czech-language entry per author of up to 1500 words.

Also, please remember:

✱ When submitting, please ensure the email body text is in English.

✱ We ask that you have the full rights to the work you are submitting.
